Since September 1, 2024, Agnico Eagle has been offering nearby residents the opportunity to sell their property to the company through the Voluntary Acquisition Program (VAP).

A response to neighborhood concerns

This addresses the concern expressed by the community surrounding the Wasamac Project, particularly those who do not wish to live alongside a mining project, that they should be able to voluntarily sell their property at any time without risk of penalty. The VAP was a commitment made by the previous owners (Yamana Gold and Monarques Gold). However, it was Agnico Eagle that implemented it.

Although Agnico Eagle anticipates that coexistence with the developing mining project will be possible, the VAP allows landowners in the project area to sell their property to Agnico Eagle if they desire.

Stakeholder consultation

The Program was presented to the Wasamac Task Force in April 2024 and during the neighbourhood meeting in May 2024. The Community Relations team then went door-to-door the following summer to introduce the Program directly to homeowners. As a result, all 39 eligible homeowners were contacted.

Program's goals

The Voluntary Acquisition Program aims to ensure fair, transparent, and equitable transactions. In particular, it proposes to:

  • Allow owners whose residences are located near current or planned advanced exploration activities for the Wasamac Project to sell their properties to Agnico Eagle in a transparent and fair manner;
  • Protect the market value of properties;
  • Offer an additional bonus to facilitate relocation procedures; and
  • Reimburse moving expenses.

The map below shows the area covered by the Voluntary Acquisition Program. People living near the area or owners of undeveloped land are invited to contact Agnico Eagle if they wish to sell. Requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

For full details, see the Wasamac Project Voluntary Acquisition Program (French only).
