Summary of the Monitoring Committee Meeting on February 11, 2026
The objectives of the first meeting of the monitoring committee were to:
- Provide an update on the project’s progress
- Present the hydrogeological study and gather questions and comments from committee members
- Approve the committee’s revised operating bylaws
- Follow up on reports
A significant change has been formalized regarding the status of the Task Force, which is now becoming a monitoring committee, in accordance with amendments to the Mining Act. This change is intended to meet the new requirements applicable to mining concession holders. The committee’s operating bylaws have been updated and approved by the members to ensure compliance. They will be added to the Monitoring Committee page and are also available here:
A significant portion of the meeting was devoted to the presentation of the preliminary hydrogeological study, conducted to assess the potential effects of mine dewatering on the groundwater table and residential wells.
Lowering the water table in advance to a depth similar to that of residential wells creates an area consistent with the project’s zone of influence as defined under the Voluntary Acquisition Program (VAP). The impact of the groundwater drawdown would be felt quickly during the first few years of operation, as the old mine is dewatered, and would then stabilize thereafter. Studies are ongoing to characterize the anticipated impacts on each residential well.
Regular follow-ups had to be conducted via email due to a lack of time to address them in person, including monitoring the implementation of the voluntary acquisition program, an overview of the work, and community engagement activities. No new reports are to be noted since the last meeting.
The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for April, following the neighborhood meeting on March 26. The year 2026 should allow for a more regular pace of meetings, depending on the progress of the environmental impact study. In the meantime, members are invited to submit their questions and suggestions regarding the committee to its leaders or directly to Agnico Eagle.
