Voluntary Acquisition Program
Share Voluntary Acquisition Program on Facebook Share Voluntary Acquisition Program on Twitter Share Voluntary Acquisition Program on Linkedin Email Voluntary Acquisition Program linkNeighbourhood consultation phase: Voluntary Acquisition Program
The Wasamac Mining Project team is currently launching the consultation phase regarding the Voluntary Acquisition Program proposed by Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (Agnico Eagle). With this program, Agnico Eagle is responding to the concerns shared by the neighbours of the Wasamac Mining Project, who wished to be able to sell their property at any time, without the risk of being penalized. Although Agnico Eagle anticipates that cohabitation will be possible during the Project’s Advanced Exploration, the Voluntary Acquisition Program allows concerned owners to sell their property to Agnico Eagle, if they so wish.
It should be noted that the Advanced Exploration Program, which is scheduled to begin at the earliest in the summer of 2025 and last for approximately 3 years, aims to recover a bulk sample of the deposit via an underground ramp. For more information, please visit the Wasamac Mining Project consultation site: https://wasamac-eng.agnicoeagle.com/exploration-campaign
The proposal plans for the Voluntary Acquisition Program to come into effect on September 1, 2024. Following the Program’s presentation to the Wasamac Mining Project Working Group last April and at the May 2024 Neighbourhood Meeting, the Community Relations team will be going door-to-door throughout August to present it directly to homeowners.
The Voluntary Acquisition Program aims to provide a framework for fair, transparent and equitable transactions. It proposes to:
- Allow property owners whose homes are located above or near actual or planned surface infrastructure for the Advanced Exploration of the Wasamac Mining Project to sell their property to Agnico Eagle if they wish, at any time, without the risk of being penalized; (see map of the Zone);
- Guarantee the market value of the properties;
- Offer an additional premium to compensate for the effort involved in relocation, and to give owners sufficient leeway to find an equivalent living situation if they so wish;
- Reimburse relocation costs.
The map below shows the Voluntary Acquisition Program area. People living near the area or owners of undeveloped land are invited to contact Agnico Eagle if they wish to sell. Requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
We invite anyone interested or concerned by the Voluntary Acquisition Program to contact the Community Relations team at 1-833-510-0330 or relations.wasamac@agnicoeagle.com. We'd be delighted to talk to you, answer your questions and receive your feedback.

Reminder of the Community Support Program's areas of involvement
Share Reminder of the Community Support Program's areas of involvement on Facebook Share Reminder of the Community Support Program's areas of involvement on Twitter Share Reminder of the Community Support Program's areas of involvement on Linkedin Email Reminder of the Community Support Program's areas of involvement linkNearly a year has gone by since we established our Community Support Program, and we can report that our team is thrilled by the popularity and positive impact of the program on the communities concerned.
Although Yamana Gold supports causes in several fields, the program focuses primarily on three priority areas where its contributions can be a lever for positive community change:
- Indigenous communities and organizations
- The neighbourhood and immediate area
- Diversity and inclusion
Dozens of causes, events and organizations working on behalf of vulnerable groups and increasing the participation of individuals that have been traditionally underrepresented in social, economic and environmental development have received guidance and support throughout the past year.
For applicants young and old, social or environmental initiatives, neighbourhood or local projects, the benefits have been many!
Regardless of the type of support or the size of the contributions, Yamana recognizes its commitment to inclusion and the importance of diversity when it comes to cultural and geographic origins, age, skills, experience and gender. By celebrating cultures, traditions, wellbeing and sustainable development in a variety of possible areas, the program's primary aim is to help create resilient communities that will thrive beyond the mine.
The selection committee that receives and studies applications is eager to build on the experiences of recent months to further develop its community support program in 2023. Each application received is carefully examined against the award criteria set out in the program.
For further discussion, feel free to drop by our community relations office at 14 rue d’Évain in Évain.

Art Acquisition Program
Share Art Acquisition Program on Facebook Share Art Acquisition Program on Twitter Share Art Acquisition Program on Linkedin Email Art Acquisition Program linkIn conjunction with the annual province-wide Journées de la culture, the Wasamac underground mining project team is proud to launch its art acquisition program to encourage the development of professional and emerging artists from Abitibi-Témiscamingue and the First Nations.
The works acquired through this program will be on view to the public at the Wasamac Underground Mining Project's community relations office and Yamana Gold's regional office.
A selection committee made up of company representatives, a professional artist and a First Nations member will meet once a year to evaluate the applications submitted. Artists wishing to submit a work may do so before mid-November of each year by filling out the form at https://www.wasamac-consultations.com/policies-and-community-support-program.
"With this initiative, we want to make the artworks accessible to the people who visit us at our offices and to offer a showcase for local artists. From the outset, we have strived for closeness to area residents and a smooth integration of our activities in the community. The art acquisition program aligns perfectly with this desire. There is no doubt that art is a great asset to our beautiful region. We hope to be able to make a difference for the artists through the promotion of their work.”

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
Share Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion on Facebook Share Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion on Twitter Share Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion on Linkedin Email Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion linkAt Yamana, we value and are deeply committed to advancing diversity and inclusion throughout our organization, in Quebec and wherever we operate around the world. Our team has established a diversity and inclusion policy that fosters a culture of belonging and ensures that all employees are treated with dignity and respect, free from conscious and unconscious bias.
As the project advances, we incorporate our diversity and inclusion philosophy into everything we do. We want to ensure that our practices and corporate culture are respectful of diversity in all its forms; that includes the representation of women, Indigenous peoples, persons living with disabilities, visible minorities, age, culture and geographic origin, in the evaluation of candidates for senior management and in hiring for all roles in the company. For example, women represent 52% of our project team in Rouyn-Noranda... a very high percentage in the mining industry. We are very proud of that!
We also invest in community initiatives that mirror our commitment to diversity and inclusion, which is a key focus of our community support program. Finally, we provide equal opportunities in our sourcing practices while upholding ethical business principles, which opens the door to competition from diverse suppliers.
We expect all employees, consultants and partners to follow our lead, identifying where there may be gaps in representation and creating measures for improvement.
Naturally, we are open to any recommendations that might help promote diversity and inclusion in our teams, practices, and corporate culture. Please do not hesitate to contact us with ideas!
