Summary of the Task Force Meeting of November 24, 2025
The 26th Task Force meeting focused primarily on reviewing community commitments, including the Voluntary Acquisition Program (VAP), 2025 community activities, development of the Good Neighbour Guide, and tracking of reports and complaints, as well as holding a participatory workshop in preparation for the upcoming resumption of the collaborative environmental impact assessment process.
An important change was presented regarding the status of the Task Force: following amendments to the Mining Act, the Task Force will officially become a Monitoring Committee. This provision comes into effect as of November 29, 2025, for mining lease holders. An update of the committee’s terms of reference and operating rules is planned to meet these new requirements.
Agnico Eagle presented an update on the development of the Good Neighbour Guide, proposing that it cover the entire life of the mine, with revisions every three years. The document will summarize all commitments made to neighbouring residents to mitigate or offset project-related impacts and to maximize positive benefits. It will also define the approach and measures used to ensure community information and communications. The development process will include consultation with local stakeholders, and once finalized, the guide will be published on the website.
The Agnico team also presented an update on the Voluntary Acquisition Program (VAP): 16 transactions have been completed to date, including two vacant lots. A strategy for the use and occupancy of acquired properties is being developed, with the goal of maintaining quality of life in the neighbourhood and avoiding unnecessary demolitions.
Some work has been completed or is planned:
Solar panels have been installed to make the extensometers energy self-sufficient.
Preparation for water sampling from the old Wasamac mine galleries is underway.
Geotechnical drilling is planned in the Wasamac range and at the intersection of Aldermac Road and road 117.
Dismantling work on the headframe of the former Francoeur mine, which had become unsafe, is ongoing.
The second part of the meeting took place as a participatory workshop. Members reviewed and prioritized concerns following the presentation of the revised project at the previous meeting. On the topic of transportation, a new issue in the revised project, a participatory mapping exercise helped identify pre-existing issues, anticipated challenges, and potential mitigation measures.
The next meeting is scheduled for January. In 2026, meetings are expected to resume at a steadier pace depending on progress with the environmental impact assessment. Members are invited to share their questions and suggestions in the meantime.
