The ZIM makes human beings the priority in the transition to a new era of mining – one that is more sustainable and more in tune with its environment. We believe that this is a promising project for the community, one that will allow us to underscore the industry’s knowledge, resources and experience in mining, both nationally and internationally. The expertise and synergies developed within the MIZ will benefit both the community and the industry.
Rouyn-Noranda's MIZ stands out because the mining industry is part of the city's DNA. In the context of a global energy transition that will involve the mineral sector and its critical and strategic mineral resources, the MIZ will be a key part of the solution that will allow Quebec to differentiate itself and make advances in sustainable development.

February 15, 2021 - Ambient noise measurements have begun on the exploration site
Share February 15, 2021 - Ambient noise measurements have begun on the exploration site on Facebook Share February 15, 2021 - Ambient noise measurements have begun on the exploration site on Twitter Share February 15, 2021 - Ambient noise measurements have begun on the exploration site on Linkedin Email February 15, 2021 - Ambient noise measurements have begun on the exploration site linkThe specialized acoustics company hired by Yamana Gold has completed the installation of sound level meters at various locations in the preferred areas where exploration activities will begin in March 2021. These state-of-the-art instruments are used to measure the current ambient noise level as well as that of exploration work is in progress.
It was important for our team to take sound measurements before exploration so that we could compare the results with those obtained when work commences. We are aware that in the past, the work (particularly the noise) may have created inconveniences for the neighborhood. The data we collect will allow us to adjust our practices and measures to minimize the impact of drill noise in the vicinity. Acoustic screens will also be installed at various locations to mitigate possible sound pollution.
We look forward to neighbourhood collaboration from the moment the work begins to ensure monitoring and follow-up of the exploration work. We invite area residents to give us feedback so that we can make changes in response to reports we receive.
