2025 Task force report

The Agnico Eagle Wasamac Mining Project team is pleased to present the Task Force's 2025 report, which also marks five years of collaboration by this forum, established in April 2021. To foster a respectful atmosphere of dialogue and equitable participation, the Task Force's meetings are facilitated by an independent third party, Transfert Environnement et Société, which facilitates discussions and ensures that different perspectives are taken into account as part of a collaborative approach to finding solutions.

The Task Force's mandate is to provide a structured space for dialogue, exchange, and information sharing between the project proponent, the local community, and various local stakeholders. Guided by the values of trust, respect, equality, and responsibility, these exchanges aim to foster mutual understanding of the project, document concerns, and identify impacts, mitigation measures, and potential benefits as the project progresses.

Over the past five years, the Task Force has made a significant contribution to the development of the Wasamac mining project, notably through constructive discussions regarding the project’s design, community relations, and environmental and social issues, as well as through the implementation of community-based initiatives, including the redevelopment of Lac-Hélène Park.

The 2025 annual report is also an opportunity to warmly thank all members for their ongoing commitment, openness, and adaptability, particularly in a context marked by significant changes, including the change in project promoter and the evolution of the regulatory framework. Their contribution has been essential to maintaining a transparent and constructive dialogue between the project and the community. In accordance with the new requirements set forth in the Mining Act, the Task Force evolved into a Monitoring Committee in 2025. Collaboration and community engagement remain at the heart of the process, to ensure the continuity of dialogue and the monitoring of commitments.

Would you like to get involved in the Wasamac Mining Project Monitoring Committee? There are still some openings available. Anyone interested in joining is invited to contact Laurence Moreau (lmoreau@transfertconsult.ca) at Transfert Environnement et Société, who coordinates the Committee’s work. Please feel free to send her your comments or suggestions for future discussions.
