The mandate of the Wasamac Underground Mining Project Task Force is to establish a forum for dialogue and information-sharing between Yamana Gold, the neighbourhood and the community. The group’s work aims to document the anticipated concerns, impacts and benefits of the project, formulate recommendations, and determine the conditions for acceptability. This discussion forum, facilitated by a neutral third party, was created to ensure the equitable inclusion of the widest diversity of viewpoints and to encourage the input of all interested parties in the search for concerted solutions.

The mandate was endorsed at the first meeting of the Task Force on April 28, 2021. To support and strengthen the group’s role, rules of operation were discussed and adopted by the members at that same meeting.

The Task Force will meet approximately once a month until the environmental impact assessment is filed. Discussions will make room for available project information to be updated and deliberation on topics chosen by the members.

The Task Force was self-appointed at a meeting held on April 8, 2021. Other resource persons will also be invited, depending on the topics tabled for discussion.

A few positions are still to be filled. Individuals who are interested in sitting on the Task Force are invited to contact us directly by email at relations.wasamac@agnicoeagle.com

The Agnico Eagle Wasamac mining project team is pleased to present the second report from the Task Force. The mandate of the Task Force is to establish a space for dialogue and information sharing among Agnico Eagle, the local community, and stakeholders. The exchanges aim to translate into concrete actions guided by principles of trust, respect, equality, and accountability.
